At a rally at his Medford headquarters joined by 60 supporters this past weekend, Medford Mayor Mike McGlynn formally endorsed State Rep. Carl Sciortino in his bid for Congress to replace Senator Ed Markey.

“It is with a great deal of pleasure that I endorse Carl Sciortino for United States Congress,” said McGlynn. “We need a leader like Carl who can change the conversation in Washington and fight for our community and for all of our families. I’ve had the great pleasure of fighting side-by-side with Carl and he will be a great champion for the people of this district.”

“Mayor McGlynn and I have stood side-by-side taking on tough issues for Medford—including getting through the worst recession since the great depression,” said Sciortino. “There are people in Washington who have a different value set—they are fighting against action on climate change, against preserving Social Security for another generation and don’t view government as a vehicle for collective progress, but as the problem. I’m running for Congress to change the conversation, stand up for progressive values in Washington.”

Carl Sciortino represents the 34th Middlesex District in the Massachusetts House, which includes parts of Medford and Somerville. He is the author of the Buffer Zone Bill, The Transgender Equal Rights bill, and fought to close corporate tax loopholes in Massachusetts. A Tufts alumnus, he resides in Medford with his partner, Pem.
