Deadline Approaches for Medford’s ‘Green Awards’

The September 6 deadline for the Second Annual Medford Green Awards nominations is quickly approaching. Sponsored by Mayor McGlynn in conjunction with the Medford Chamber of Commerce and the Medford Energy Committee, the Green Awards program is a way to thank those businesses, residents and organizations that have implemented sustainable practices that will improve the environment and make Medford a better place to work, live, and play.

The Green Awards will be presented in two categories: business including non-profit organizations, and residential. Practices being considered include renewable energy, energy conservation, environmental advocacy, water conservation, waste reduction and reuse, sustainable landscaping methods and other innovative environmental and energy conservation practices.

This program is also about educating and encouraging other Medford residents to “think green” by showcasing environmentally responsible actions.

Nominations will be accepted electronically and will be judged by the members of the Medford Energy Committee and the Medford Chamber of Commerce. Mayor McGlynn will present the winners with a handsome plaque at the Medford Harvest Your Energy Festival, which will be held on Saturday, October 26 at the base of the City’s wind turbine on Freedom Way.

Please take a few minutes to nominate a neighbor, friend, organization or merchant who is making Medford more sustainable. By the way, it is perfectly OK to nominate yourself or your business.

For information, or to complete a nomination form, please visit http://www.medford.org/greenawards or call Medford’s Energy Office at 781-393-2137.
