Katherine ClarkDemocrat Katherine Clark, a state senator from Melrose, is the new Congressional representative for the 5th District.

Clark replaces long-time Democratic Congressman Ed Markey, who recently won a special election for the US Senate.

Clark defeated Republican Frank Addivinola, Independent James Aulenti, and Justice Peace Security party member James Hall.

In Medford, Clark earned 2,520 votes (65%) compared to 1,282 for Addivinola (33%), according to Boston.com. Aulenti and Hall each earned 1% of the vote.

Turnout was low on Tuesday, given the weather, time of year, and low publicity for the election. Eleven percent of eligible voters cast ballots in Medford.

According to the AP, Clark is only the fifth woman to be elected to the US House by MA voters.
