Mustang Boys Hoops Earns Win Over Westfield

The ride out there may have seemed long, but the ride home was just fine.

They say, winning cures all ills and the Medford High boys basketball team found that out firsthand Saturday when they topped Westfield High, 67-56, in the East-West Challenge Tournament at Mass. College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in North Adams, Mass.

In the nightcap of the tourney, Malden High beat Drury High School, 51-40.

The Medford win was the first notch in the belt for first-year Mustang head coach David White, who saw his team snap an early two-game slide to put
their record at 1-2 overall.

Billerica 71, Medford 53

Earlier last week, Medford High basketball got another strong game from junior Darnell Richardson, but fell to non-leaguer Billerica High School, 71-53, on Wednesday night.

Richardson scored 16 points to lead the Mustangs, who fell for the second straight game. He led all scorers.

“This game was closer than score indicated,” Billerica coach Mike Dagle said in an online report. “Overall, this was a great team win.”

Driving the lane: Medford is back in action this weekend, playing in the Oliver Ames Tournament.
