The first snow storm of 2014 could bring upwards of a foot of snow to Medford and the area.

According to the National Weather Service, Medford could receive seven to thirteen inches of snow by the time the storm ends on Friday.

Snow is expected to start falling around midnight on Wednesday and continue throughout the day Thursday until ending Friday afternoon.

The local area is under a Winter Storm Watch from 1:00AM Thursday through 10AM Friday.

The heaviest snowfall is forecast for Thursday night into Friday morning. In addition, “dangerously cold wind chills” are expected for Friday. Friday’s high temperature will hover around the single digits with wind chills making it feel well below zero.

The Medford Public Schools, initially scheduled to open Thursday following the winter break, will remain closed Thursday, January 2 and Friday, January 3, according to School Superintendent Roy Belson. Many other area schools are also closed for both days.

A snow emergency has been declared in Medford as of 6PM Thursday until further notice. That means parking is restricted to the odd side only on side streets and no parking is allowed on main roads. The city website has more details.
