Tufts Announces Upcoming Public Concerts

Ferdinand and the Bull (and Other Animals) February 8th

The Tufts University Department of Music presents Ferdinand and the Bull (and Other Animals), a concert featuring the beloved children’s story character Ferdinand the Bull by the Solar Winds Quintet. The concert will take place in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. as part of the Saturday Family and Children’s Concert Series. In this brilliant musical tale, composer Mark Fish faithfully uses the text of Munro Leaf’s “The Story of Ferdinand”, the tale of a bull who refused to fight. Brought to life in music, Ferdinand snorts, paws the ground, and sits under his favorite cork tree and smells the flowers. Narrator Guy Urban reads the full text, accompanied by a slide show of original illustrations from this children’s classic. It’s the next best thing to being in Spain, the perfect antidote to a New England winter. Additionally, the musicians of Solar Winds talk about their instruments and introduce a few more familiar animals in an interactive segment, bringing their program to a noisy, hilarious conclusion.
