Erin DiBenedettoWith members of her family by her side, Medford School Committee member Erin DiBenedetto delivered hundreds of signatures to the Secretary of State’s office this morning officially kicking off her campaign for State Representative in the 34th Middlesex District.

“From the time I was a teenager growing up in Somerville right through raising my own teenagers in Medford serving our community has always been an important part of my life,” said DiBenedetto, a special education coordinator at the Prospect Hill Charter Academy. “These are very important times for our district as we face the Green Line Expansion, securing adequate funding for our schools to ensure all of our kids have access to education and dealing with the substance abuse epidemic in our community. We need strong, proven leadership to address these challenges. And I’m up to the task!”

DiBenedetto is a graduate of Saint Clement High School in Medford has served on the Medford School Committee since 2010. She served as Vice Chair of the Medford PTO from 2007-2010 and has run the Medford High School post-prom bash and the annual prom dress drive for teens in need for the past several years.

“I’m very proud of the work I’ve been able to do in the community,” said DiBenedetto. “We need someone who is ready to stand up and fight to ensure that our district gets the funding we need to continue thriving. I’ve got the energy and the enthusiasm it takes to get things done – and my track record of standing up for needed funding while being an advocate for fiscal responsibility when dealing with our taxpayer dollars just makes sense to voters in Somerville and Medford.”

Her husband Joe is a carpenter with the New England Regional Council of Carpenters, her son Joseph is a graduate of Medford High School (Class of 2009) and will graduate from Worcester State University this year.
