Cummings Foundation to Donate $100K to Krystle Campbell Memorial Peace Garden

Mr. William Campbell and Mayor Michael J. McGlynn will be attending an award presentation ceremony tonight as the Cummings Foundation makes a $100,000 donation for the Krystle Campbell Memorial Peace Garden that is being built near the Senior Center in Medford.

“On behalf of the Campbell Family, we appreciate the Cummings Foundation support of the peace garden that will also honor the memory of MIT Police Office Sean Collier, BU student Lingzi Lu, Martin Richard and all the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings,” said Mayor McGlynn. “The Peace Garden will consist of a central seating area, focused on four fountains, representing the four victims, and a taller, fifth fountain that will represent the world and honor all those injured in the bombings. The theme of the park will be to inspire humanity, diversity and inclusion. The Peace Garden is estimated to cost approximately $1 million. We are in the process of raising the money from grants and private donations to fund it. We are extremely grateful to Mr. & Mrs. Cummings and the Foundation for coming forward to make this most significant and generous contribution. The Cummings family philanthropic endeavors are legendary in the City of Medford.”

Now in its third year, the Cummings Foundation’s $100K for 100 Programs awards $10 million in grants annually to nonprofits that are based in and primarily serve Middlesex, Essex and Suffolk Counties. The foundation aims to give back in the area where it owns commercial buildings, all of which are managed by its affiliate Cummings Properties. Founded in 1970 by Medford native Bill Cummings, the Woburn-based commercial real estate firm leases and manages more than 10 million square feet of commercial space, including two office buildings on Boston Avenue in Medford.
