NAACP to Commemorate 50th Anniversary of Civil Rights Act

The Mystic Valley Area branch of the NAACP will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964 at the annual Freedom Fund Breakfast on Saturday June 7, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at Montvale Plaza in Stoneham.

The signing of the Civil Rights Act was a watershed moment for the nation. Celebrating the achievements of past leaders for the cause of national equality for all is also an opportunity to raise awareness among those too young to remember this important event. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for people of all backgrounds to simply enjoy a good meal together… something that could not happen a mere 50 years ago.

Guest speakers at the Freedom Fund Breakfast will include Massachusetts State Attorney General Martha Coakley. Guest attendants will include Mayor Michael McGlynn of Medford, Mayor Gary Christenson of Malden and Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine of Arlington.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Geoffrey Dana Hicks and Lori J. Dow.

To reserve your seat for this morning of celebration, please call Carolyn Shepherd at 781-483-3343, Edna Gavin at 781-935-5356 or Juanita Payne at 781-488-3570.
