Guzik Announces Candidacy for State Rep

Sharon Guzik, former Medford School Committee member, is announcing her candidacy for Massachusetts State Representative in the 34th Middlesex District.

Guzik believes that in order to create the best policies for our community, we must address tough issues directly and with deep understanding, rather than avoiding hard decisions with piecemeal solutions. As a scientist, Guzik’s passion for social justice is guided by her knowledge of the issues.

Guzik will compete in the September 9, 2014 primary to replace former Rep. Carl Sciortino, who recently was named Executive Director of the AIDS Action Committee.

“I’ve worked side by side with Carl on his campaign Steering Committees, discussing issues faced by working families and local businesses. He’s been a great champion for the district, and I’m committed to continuing his work on progressive causes, increasing investment in the local economy and schools, bringing the Green Line to Rt. 16, and preserving green space.”

A longtime Hillside resident, Guzik has worked as a community activist for more than a decade on a range of local issues. She has been a vocal proponent of public school funding both as a board member of Citizens for Public Schools and through her service on the 2010-2011 Medford School Committee. A biologist by training, Guzik has worked to help communities become more environmentally sustainable by paying close attention to research and best practices.
