Teachers Endorse Christine Barber for State Representative

Christine Barber received the endorsements of both the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Boston Teachers Union in her bid to represent Medford and Somerville as State Representative for the 34th Middlesex district. Barber’s experience and commitment to our public schools on behalf of the families of Medford and Somerville earned her the endorsements of these prominent teachers’ organizations.

“Christine Barber is an outstanding candidate for State Representative,” said Paul Toner, president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. “She strongly believes that every student has the right to a great education, and she will be an effective advocate for our public schools, colleges and universities.”

“Christine’s unwavering support for public school funding and of improving our school system demonstrates her firm commitment to providing future opportunity for the children of Medford and Somerville.” said Richard Stutman, President of the Boston Teachers Union.

Christine Barber is a progressive Democrat running for the State Representative seat that was recently vacated by Carl Sciortino. Barber is a health care policy advocate who brings unparalleled public policy experience and a strong understanding of the issues that Medford and Somerville families care about, from the Green Line extension to local economic development and job creation, to containing healthcare costs. Barber, the daughter of a public school teacher, also understands first-hand the needs of teachers and students in our public schools. Barber will be a vocal advocate in the State House for increasing local aid from the state to our communities so that our public schools have the resources they need to prepare our children to compete in the economy of tomorrow.

“I’m honored to have teachers from Medford, Somerville, and all across the Commonwealth in my corner,” said Barber. “I know that the best investment in our economy long-term is investing in our children’s education right now. As State Representative, I will be a committed partner to our teachers, school administrators, and parents to ensure that our children receive the best possible education to provide them with great opportunity.”

In addition to these prominent teachers’ organizations, Barber has also received endorsements from numerous community leaders including: Rep. Denise Provost, Mayor Joseph Curtatone, President of the Somerville Board of Aldermen Bill White, Aldermen Rebekah Gewirtz, Matt McLaughlin, Dennis Sullivan, Tony LaFuente, and Jack Connolly.
