State Senator Jehlen’s Budget Report

In a newsletter released Monday night, State Senator Patricia Jehlen (D-Somerville, Medford) highlighted several items included in the state’s $36.5 billion budget, which Governor Deval Patrick signed last week.

The state budget includes $250,000 for the development of a Mystic River Master Plan. The plan will include beautification efforts as well as protection from invasive species. Funding for the plan’s initiatives will come state and federal money as well as from court settlements, according to Sen. Jehlen.

The state budget also includes $50,000 for the West Medford Community Center for its community programs.

In addition to funding that directly affects Medford, Sen. Jehlen was also pleased that some of items she pushed for were included. A wage increase for personal care homemakers, a homeless animal prevention care fund, and increased funding for elder affairs programs were among several items included in the new state budget.
