McGlynn, Donato Back Steve Kerrigan for Lt. Gov.

Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn and state Rep. Paul Donato (D-Medford), announced their support of Steve Kerrigan for Lieutenant Governor today.

McGlynn is the fourteenth mayor to announce his support for Kerrigan’s candidacy for Lieutenant Governor. Kerrigan also has the support of four county sheriffs from across the state including Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian. Donato joins the more than 40 other legislators who have announced their support for Kerrigan. In June, Kerrigan finished first at the Democratic State Convention in Worcester.

“As Lieutenant Governor, Steve Kerrigan will be a strong voice for our cities and towns. From his time as a top aide to Senator Ted Kennedy to his leadership in the Attorney General’s office, Steve has a proven record of delivering for Massachusetts,” said McGlynn. “I know that he is the type of leader that we need in the Lieutenant Governor’s office and I’m proud to support his campaign.”

McGlynn has served as the mayor of Medford since 1988. Prior to serving as mayor, McGlynn represented the communities of Medford and Malden as a State Representative for 11 years. He has also served as president of both the Massachusetts Mayors Association and the Massachusetts Municipal Association.

“Steve Kerrigan is my choice for Lieutenant Governor,” said Donato. “Steve has dedicated his life to public service, most recently as President of the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund – a small non-profit that supports the families of our veterans. Steve is the type of leader that Massachusetts needs in the Corner Office.”

Donato has represented the communities of Malden and Medford in the House since 2001. Prior to serving in the Legislature, Donato served on the Medford School Committee and the Medford City Council including five years as mayor and three years as president of the City Council.

“I’m honored to have the support of such strong and committed public servants like Mayor Mike McGlynn and Rep. Paul Donato,” said Kerrigan. “Mayor McGlynn and Rep. Donato have dedicated their lives to serving the people of Medford and Malden, and I am lucky to have them in my corner.”

Kerrigan serves as president of the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund, a private non-profit dedicated to providing support to families of fallen Massachusetts military services members from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. A former Lancaster selectman and finance committee member, Kerrigan was a longtime senior aide to Senator Ted Kennedy, CEO of the 2012 Democratic National Convention and CEO of President Obama’s second inauguration.
