Sen. Elizabeth Warren to Speak at Tufts in Public Lecture on Sept. 15th

Senator Elizabeth WarrenU.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (Dem-Mass.) will deliver the Alan D. Solomont Lecture on Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University on September 15. The lecture, which will be followed by a brief question and answer session, will be held at 12:00 p.m. in Cohen Auditorium on Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus. It is presented by the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University.

Tickets for members of the Tufts community will be available starting September 8 at the Cohen Box Office in Cohen Auditorium with a valid Tufts ID. A limited number of seats for the public will be available by calling 888-320-4103.

Warren is currently serving her first term as U.S. Senator. Recognized twice by TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, she is known as one of the nation’s top experts on the financial pressures facing middle class families. In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis she chaired the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).

Warren served as a law professor for more than 30 years, including nearly 20 years as the Leo Gottlieb Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. She taught courses on commercial law, contracts and bankruptcy and wrote more than a hundred articles and nine books, including two national bestsellers, The Two-Income Trap and All Your Worth. She is a graduate of the University of Houston and Rutgers School of Law.

The Alan D. Solomont Lecture at the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service was established in honor of Alan D. Solomont, A70, A09P. The inaugural lecture was delivered by Nancy Pelosi in 2011. Today’s lecture also launches the Tisch College Distinguished Speaker Series. Throughout the academic year, the Tisch College Speaker Series will bring leaders from a range of fields and perspectives to campus to discuss pressing public issues. The goal is to educate, enlighten and even to provoke students at Tufts, hoping they will be inspired by the leaders and role models they hear and meet.
