Governor, State Boards of Education to Meet at MHS Monday, December 15th

On Monday, December 15 Medford will host a joint meeting of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the State Board of Early Education and Care. Governor Deval Patrick will be in attendance and address both boards. The meeting is scheduled to start at 5:00 P.M. in the Caron Theater at Medford High School.

The theme of this special joint meeting is “Building the foundation for early literacy and student success.”

The agenda will include two major presentations:

– Dr. Ralph Smith, Managing Director of the Annie Casey Foundation’s Campaign for Grade Level Reading, will discuss key challenges and approaches to meeting that goal

– EEC and ESE Staff presentation on current inter-agency collaboration to strengthen early learning and possible next steps

Medford has a very comprehensive Early Education Program. We have repeatedly stressed the importance of closing the Preparation Gap” as a prerequisite to closing the Achievement Gap. While it has taken a while, we are gaining traction on this issue and hope that the state will help us increase our resources in support of early learning goals.

All are welcome to attend this important event!

In addition, the Board of Early Education and Care will meet at 3:00pm in the library at Medford High School.
