Lady Mustang Hockey Team to Begin 2-Game Home Stand

The girls varsity hockey team is set to kick off a two game home stand. On Monday the Lady Mustangs play their home opener as they welcome Watertown/Belmont at noon. Watertown/ Belmont is ranked fourth in The Boston Globe preseason poll. On Saturday, January 3rd the Lady Mustangs will host Shawsheen Tech at 2:00pm.

On Saturday, December 13th the Medford High girls varsity hockey team kicked off its season vs Masconomet at the Haverhill Valley Forum. The Chieftains used a goal in each period plus an empty net goal with six seconds remaining to top the Lady Mustangs 4-1. Medford’s goal was scored by senior Nicole Mortell on a wrist shot top right corner that got past Masco senior goalie Molly Kelley with ninety seconds remaining.

Four days later sophomore forwards Ailish Fallon and Mia Price both scored rebound goals as the Lady Mustangs tied Peabody 2-2. Medford held the lead for most of the night until the Tanners’ Hannah Travers and Caroline Buckley each scored a goal in the final seven minutes of the game.

Playing a Saturday afternoon game at the Larsen rink in Winthrop Medford lost 5-0. Winthrop/Lynn sophomore goalie Gretchen Howard earned her second shutout of the year for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Mustangs roster includes Trisha MacLean, Samantha McLaughlin, Julia Shanahan, Mary Kate Lynch, Lauren Brown, Abby Vigliotte, Nicole Mortell, Mia Price, Brenna Forbes, Kayli Lanzilli, Summer Tufts, Mamie Powers, Marykate Cullinane, Caitlin Sheehey, Riley Lynch, Christina Gesualdi, Adrienne Porrazzo, Ailish Fallon, Trinady Jackson, and Ashley Rodriquez.
