Local Model UN Fundraiser Jan. 17th

The Arlington Regional Model United Nations Program (ARMUN) is pleased to invite you to attend “An Evening of Festive Entertainment” on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 7PM in the Fellowship Hall of Calvary Church, 300 Mass Ave, Arlington. The evening will feature a local-youth jazz band led by vocalist Claire Dickson and bassist Dan Klingsman, joined as well by Ezra Morrison on Clarinet, Kevin LeFleur on guitar, Michael Morrissette on piano, and Aaron Colonnesse on drums. The just turned 18 Claire Dickson (President of the High School Model UN Club this year) will be making one of her final local performances before departing to be a member of this year’s Grammy Choir, and the evening is shaping up to be a wonderful event with this band as the highlight.

Also performing will be 6th grade state-finalist in cello (and middle school Model UN Club member), Isabella Liu, who will play several solo selections for the audience and then also be joined by her also very accomplished younger brother for a moving duo.

State Representative Sean Garballey will address the audience briefly, as well Arlington Vice Chair of the Board of Selectman Joe Curro. Other Special Guests will be announced as the event approaches. Sixth grader from Ottoson Milo Kiely-Song and Junior from Medford High School Simon Ospenson will address the audience briefly about the importance, significance, and benefits the students get by participating in Model UN.

There will be a bake sale at the event. There will also be a silent auction and live item sale during the event. Donations for both of these aspects of the event are currently being sought and anything that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Admission is by donation, and no minimum amount is required in order to attend the event. However, a suggested donation of $15 per person and $50 for a family of 4 is recommended.

All proceeds from this event go directly to fund student participation in Model UN Conferences, with no Program Administrative overhead being taken from the funds raised. 80% of the proceeds of this event will be used to help fund the 8 high school students who are attending the National High School Model UN Conference in NYC March 4 – 7 (a conference attended by over 3,000 high school students from around the world); the other 20% will be put in a designated savings account as seed funding for a Financial Assistance Fund to provide aid to any ARMUN participant who needs assistance with conference fees – fees for local conferences run from between $40 – $250 and national/international conferences cost much more than that – ARMUN Charges nothing to be a member of the club and participate fully in club activities, but we can do nothing about the external fees charged by conferences, and would like to start building a fund that can provide assistance so that nobody is ever unable to participate because of money.

A full accounting of all funds raised and their usage will be available at any time upon request to the club email: armun2013@gmail.com. For more information or if you have any questions, please email the club email. Please also see our club website: www.arlingtonregionalmun.weebly.com for more information about the ARMUN Program and its clubs and activities in general.
