Reverend Monsignor Richard J. Mehm, 66

Reverend Monsignor Richard J. Mehm, 66, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden, passed away on January 28th, 2015.

He was raised and educated in Lynn and is a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1966. He attended St. John’s Seminary and was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest for the Archdiocese of Boston on May 21st, 1977.

He served the diocese in many different capacities including; Assistant Pastor at Saint Rita Church in Haverhill; Associate Pastor at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lynnfield; Parochial Vicar at Saint James the Apostle Church in Arlington; Parochial Vicar at Saint Mary, Star of the Sea Church in Beverly; Pastor of Saint Andrew Church in Forest Hills and for the past 14 years, he has served as Pastor at Immaculate Conception Church in Malden. He also formerly served as the Spiritual Director for the Lynn Council of the St. Vincent DePaul Society; the Chaplain for the Lynn Police Department and the Vicar Forane for the North Region Vicariate IV. Monsignor Mehm was also a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Hughes) Mehm; the brother of Joseph Mehm of Lancaster, PA and the late Ann Castignoli and Walter Mehm; the uncle of Cheryl Castignoli of Lowell, Dianne Eggert of South Carolina, Karen Butkovich of Andover, Erika Hines of North Carolina, Allison Murphy of Needham and Ryan Mehm of Washington, DC. He is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Monsignor Mehm will lie in state at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden on Monday Feb. 2nd from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday February 3rd at 11 AM. Services will conclude with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery in Lynn. All are welcome to attend.
