A local man was struck and killed by a plow on Monday afternoon at the Whole Foods Bread and Circus Bakehouse in Medford, according to published reports.

Cesar Moya, 60, of Chelsea, was an employee of the bakery. He had finished his shift around 2PM on Monday and was accidentally hit by the plow when he was walking to his car.

“We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of a longtime and valued member of the Whole Foods Market family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends,” said a statement from Whole Foods that was published by WHDH.

Medford Police Lieutenant Paul Covino called the incident a “sad tragedy.” While the incident does remain under investigation it is being treated as an accident.

“This incident remains an active investigation,” Middlesex District Attorney District Attorney Ryan said in a statement to WHDH. “The circumstances surrounding what occurred are still being examined. However, due to the unprecedented weather we are all experiencing, it bears saying that we all need to be mindful of public safety issues as we navigate sidewalks, parking lots, and roads.”
