Stephanopoulos to Speak in Public Forum at Tufts April 8

George StephanopoulosABC News’ chief anchor George Stephanopoulos will discuss “Who Do You Believe in the 24/7, Multi-Platform World of News?” at the 10th annual Edward R. Murrow Forum on Issues in Journalism at Tufts University on Wednesday, April 8, at 3:30 p.m. The forum, which is free and open to the public, will take place in ASEAN Auditorium in the Cabot Intercultural Center on Tufts University’s Medford/Somerville campus.

Stephanopoulos leads ABC’s coverage on all major live events and breaking news around the world. He currently serves as the anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” which was recently ranked the number one public affairs program in adults 25-54. He joined ABC in 1997 and over the last decade has conducted interviews with subjects including President Barack Obama, Vice President Joseph Biden, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Russian President Vladimir Putin. His honors include two Emmys, a DuPont, a Murrow, and two Cronkite Awards.

The forum will begin with an interview of Stephanopoulos by Jonathan M. Tisch, co-chair of the board of Loews Corporation and chairman of Loews Hotels and Resorts. A graduate of Tufts and vice chair of the Tufts Board of Trustees, Tisch hosted the Emmy-nominated and Gracie-award winning television program “Beyond the Boardroom with Jonathan Tisch,” and is the author of three best-selling books. The forum will end with an opportunity for the audience to ask Stephanopoulos about his years in politics and journalism.

Stephanopoulos began his career in Washington, D.C. as an aide to an Ohio Congressman and later worked on Bill Clinton’s 1991 presidential campaign. He went on to serve as a trusted advisor in the Clinton administration. He is the author of “All Too Human: A Political Education,” a number one New York Times bestseller about his work with Clinton. He is also a founding member of the Next Generation Initiative, a nonprofit foundation that helps students develop real-world skills and experiences.

The Murrow forum is sponsored by Tufts University’s Communications and Media Studies Program at the School of Arts and Sciences, the Edward R. Murrow Center of Public Diplomacy at The Fletcher School, and Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service. Previous forum speakers include Ariana Huffington, Brian Williams, Katie Couric, Christiane Amanpour, Ted Koppel, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather and Chris Matthews.
