City Raises Money for Maintenance of Krystle Campbell Peace Garden

Hundreds attended a special fundraiser on Thursday night to raise money for the Krystle Campbell Peace Garden. The Peace Garden will honor victims of the Boston Marathon bombings and will include commemorative plaques for Medford’s Krystle Campbell as well as Lingzi Lu, Martin Richard and MIT Police Officer Sean Collier. According to information released by Mayor Michael McGlynn’s office, the city met its $1.1 million+ goal for the development of the Peace Garden through state grants and private donations. The money raised Thursday night will be dedicated to the garden’s maintenance. Tufts University President Anthony Monaco and Boston Marathon Director and Medford native Dave MacGillivray both surprised the crowd with additional pledges of $50,000 and $5,000, respectively, from the university and MacGillivray’s charitable foundation.
