City Council to Hold Meeting About Opiate Addiction

The Medford City Council is holding a Committee of the Whole meeting next week to address the rising concern of opiate addiction and its effect on the community. The meeting was planned following emotional testimony before the City Council on March 3 by members of Overcoming Addiction. Their stories of personal struggle resonated with the Councilors and prompted one, Paul Camuso, to share his own story.

Councilor Camuso has also offered a Council resolution for the city to draft an ordinance for the hiring of a part-time substance abuse prevention coordinator. The resolution will be discussed at the Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, March 17.

The Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting is taking place on Wednesday, March 18 at 6:00PM in Room 207 at Medford City Hall. Several city officials have been invited to the meeting, including Board of Health Director Karen Rose, the city’s substance prevention coordinators, the Police and Fire Chiefs, and School Superintendent Roy Belson.

The meeting is open to the public. More details are available on the city’s website.
