Mystic Valley Medical Reserve Corps Seeking Volunteers

The cities and towns of Malden, Medford, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham and Wakefield are recruiting volunteers to join the Mystic Valley Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). The Mystic Valley MRC is looking for residents who are interested in volunteering to help protect the health of their community.

The MRC are units throughout the state and nation of community-based medical and non –medical volunteers that function locally to organize and utilize volunteers who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies. In addition, MRC promote healthy living throughout the year. MRC volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources.

The MRC was founded after President Bush’s 2002 State of the Union Address, in which he asked all Americans to volunteer in support of their country. It is a specialized component of Citizen Corps, a national network of volunteers dedicated to ensuring hometown security. Citizen Corps, along with AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and the Peace Corps are part of the President’s USA Freedom Corps, which promotes volunteerism and service nationwide.

If you are interested please visit www.MysticValleyMRC.org and call Brooke Hoyt at 781-393-2449 or email bhoyt@medford.org.

Mystic Valley MRC will be holding an informational meeting on April 7, 2015 at the Stoneham Town Hall from 7:00-7:30 that will inform you about the Medical Reserve Corps and the volunteer application.
