Sen. Jehlen Appointed to State Committees

Today Senator Jehlen (D-Somerville) was appointed by Senate President Stan Rosenberg (D-Amherst) to the National Conference on State Legislatures (NCSL) Committee on Education and to the Council of State Governments (CSG) Eastern Region Committee on Education as the alternate. Senator Jehlen will represent Massachusetts at national conferences with legislators from across the country to discuss issues currently facing our residents. The Senator will share ideas, learn from lawmakers around the country, and illustrate how the Commonwealth continues to be a leader among states in conversations surrounding education.

“Congratulations to Senator Jehlen on her appointment to the NCSL and CSG committees,” said Senate President Stan Rosenberg. “Senator Jehlen’s intellect, work ethic, and experience will be a tremendous contribution to the both committees.”

“It is an honor to be appointed to both of these committees,” said Senator Jehlen. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with colleagues from legislatures across the country to develop best practices in state education policy.”

Founded in 1975, the National Conference on State Legislatures is a national organization formed to support, defend, and strengthen state legislatures. The NCSL has “helped states remain strong and independent by giving them the tools, information, and resources to craft the best solutions to difficult problems.” The NCSL has fought against unwarranted actions in Congress and saved states more than $1 billion.

The Council of State Governments is our nation’s only organization serving all three branches of state government. The CSG is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas that help state officials shape public policy. This offers unparalleled regional, national, and international opportunities to network, develop leaders, collaborate, and create problem solving partnerships.
