Scarpelli Seeks Council Seat

George Scarpelli, a three-term Medford School Committee Member and experienced municipal director, announced his candidacy for Medford City Council today.

“I have had the privilege of serving the children and families of Medford for the past twenty years as an educator, coach, and as a member of the Medford School Committee,” Scarpelli said. “My time as an ambassador for the youth of
Medford has shown and inspired me to take the actions necessary to help the city grow. By pursuing a position on the City Council, I hope to further my commitment to our school system and broaden my impact on our growth by helping every citizen in our city.”

A life-long resident of Medford, Scarpelli said that the values he learned growing up in Medford are very important to him and he looks forward to making Medford “an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.”

As a member of the Medford School Committee, Scarpelli has been instrumental in helping to modernize Medford’s Public Schools. He was involved in the campaign for the development of seventeen state-of-the-art science labs, the
$3.3 million school-wide technology upgrade, and he has worked diligently to support the addition of 21st Century curriculums such as robotics, engineering, and graphic design in the Medford Vocational Technical High School.

Scarpelli has also been credited with fulfilling his campaign promise of changing the landscape of recreation throughout Medford. Using critical experience gained from his twenty years as a physical education teacher in the Medford Public Schools, in addition to his current role as the Program Director of Somerville’s Recreation Department, Scarpelli proved influential in the development of the Medford Field of Dreams multi-purpose athletic fields and the restoration of the High School’s swimming pool.

“I would like to thank those who have, and continue to, support me as a School Committee member. My goal has been, and always will be, to make Medford a better place for our citizens, communities and businesses. I am confident that I have the experience, vision and resolve to collaboratively lead this city to a better future, and I am excited to gain your support as we embark on this next chapter together. Let’s get started.”
