Celebrate Earth Day with the Mystic River Watershed Association

Make Torbert MacDonald Park a Better Place to Run, Hike, Bike, and Play

Join together with Mystic River communities in the celebration of Earth Day (April 22nd) by cleaning up litter and debris that has gathered throughout the long and treacherous winter in Torbert MacDonald Park, part of the Mystic River Reservation. Volunteers are invited to lend a hand in beautifying the award-winning landscape design of the meandering paths, trees, and open lawns providing space for rest and enjoyment in a riverside setting. This event is part of Park Serve Day – MassParks annual statewide day of volunteer service during Earth Week.

Meet on Saturday, April 25 at 9:00AM in the parking lot next to the State Police Barracks. Volunteers are asked to RSVP online.

The Mystic River Watershed is the most urbanized and densely populated watershed in Massachusetts, with over half a million people living in its 76 square miles. Due to its long industrial history and aging sewer systems, the water quality of the river is severely degraded and access to the riverfront is limited. Despite these challenges, residents, community groups, and organizations are working to improve the Mystic River, its tributaries, and surrounding communities.
