‘Curse of the Bambino’ Lecture at Medford Public Library April 13th

When the Boston Red Sox went for 86 years without winning the World Series, fans blamed it on “The Curse of the Bambino”, which started when Babe Ruth was sold to the Yankees in 1919.

David Kruh will take you back to the roots of Boston baseball and the origins of the famous curse. We’ll see and hear the real story behind Harry Frazee, his purchase of the Red Sox, and later of a young Babe Ruth. Then we’ll learn the differing reasons why, in 1920, the Babe was sold to the New York Yankees. You’ll be surprised at the answer.

This lecture is the first program in the Library’s Annual Community Read. This year’s adult title is The Big Bam : The Life and Times of Babe Ruth by Leigh Montville. Visit the Library website at http://www.medfordlibrary.org for all of the Read events.

David Kruh is a performer, author and speaker who specializes in Boston History. His musical play The Curse of the Bambino premiered in 2001 at the Boston Lyric Stage.

Monday’s event is taking place at 7:00PM at the Medford Public Library, which is located at 111 High Street.
