A Tufts University student is a “person of interest” in an investigation of a double stabbing at a fraternity on campus Sunday, according to information from Somerville Police and The Boston Globe.

According to Somerville Police, two young men, 19 and 20, were stabbed at 98 Professors Row at Tufts, which is the address of the Delta Tau Delta (DTD) fraternity. The men, both from Boston, are not Tufts students. Both were stabbed in the neck and were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment. One victim was seriously injured while the other suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police. The Globe says a Tufts University student is being questioned about the incident.

Around 5:00 AM Sunday morning police issued a warning telling the Tufts campus and nearby homes to “shelter in place”, lock doors, and stay away from windows. Later, police said there was no threat to the community and that the incident was not a random act of violence. The victims and the alleged attacker(s) are known to each other.

Most students are gone from the campus for the summer as Tufts held its final classes and graduation several weeks ago. It is not uncommon for a small number of fraternity members to live in their houses for the summer.

DTD released a statement to NECN, which reads, in part:

“…only a small number of men are occupying the chapter house during the summer academic term which starts shortly. Delta Tau Delta is cooperating with the police investigation as it proceeds. At this time our thoughts are focused on the speedy recovery of the injured parties.”
