School Committee Budget Hearing June 9th

The Medford School Committee will hold a budget hearing on Tuesday, June 9.

According to a city budget document released in May, the schools are receiving nearly $53 million, an amount that is $1.8 million more than the current budget, which can be viewed on the school website. The entire municipal budget is $155 million, which is $5 million more than this year’s city budget.

The School Committee have been hearing from department heads over the past several weeks in a series of pre-budget meetings. At the hearing, the entire line item budget will be reviewed. Once the school budget is approved, the entire budget will be before the Council for approval later in June.

The budget is the final one for Mayor Michael McGlynn, who chairs the School Committee and is retiring at the end of 2015. It’s also the last one for his former Budget Director Stephanie Muccini Burke, who resigned in May to pursue her mayoral candidacy.

Tuesday’s school budget hearing is taking place at 7:00 PM in the library at Medford High School.
