City Council to Hold Budget Hearings

The Medford City Council is in the process of reviewing the final budget of Mayor Michael McGlynn’s long career.

The $155 million budget is more than $5 million more than this year’s budget. The schools are receiving nearly $53 million, an amount that is $1.8 million more than the current budget.

The Council’s first budget hearing is June 9 at 5:30 PM in Room 207 at City Hall. The Building, Data Processing, Electrical, Weights and Measures, Library, and City Clerk departments will present their budgets. On June 10 at 5:30 the Council consider the budgets for the Department of Public Works and all of its divisions as well as the Legislative and Executive departments. Finally, at 6:00 PM on June 18 Police, Fire, Traffic, Civil Defense, and Elections/Registrations will present their budgets to the Council.

The School Committee have been hearing from department heads over the past several weeks in a series of pre-budget meetings and is holding its budget hearing Tuesday, June 9.

This budget is also the last for Stephanie Muccini Burke as Budget and Personnel Director. Burke recently announced her intentions to run for Mayor and resigned May 15.

The proposed city budget can be viewed in the Council’s meeting notice on the city website.

The entire budget will be before the Council for approval before the fiscal year begins on July 1.
