Van der Kloot Endorses Burke

To the Citizens of Medford,

It is with great respect that I endorse Stephanie Muccini Burke to be the next Mayor of Medford. As a member of the Medford school committee I have had many opportunities to interact with Stephanie over the years.  She is always professional, insightful, smart and respectful. Stephanie brought these qualities to the City Council where she served for 15+ years. Her questions were on target, her demeanor was always appropriate and she demonstrated professional behavior at every turn. She always brought positive and appropriate energy to the council proceedings even when she was challenging the opinion of others or the Mayor himself. In fact, there were many of us who were both surprised and delighted when Mayor McGlynn selected Stephanie to serve as the Director of Budget and Personnel. Surprised because we knew that Stephanie had herself been known to challenge the Mayor and delighted because we knew she had the backbone and capability to serve our city well in this difficult position.

As Mayor, Stephanie will Chair the Medford School Committee. As a school committee member, I know how important it will be to have positive, respectful leadership heading our committee. We have made some fabulous gains in the last few years. Major capital projects, such as the science labs, field of dreams, and the pool were successfully completed. Stephanie oversaw the finances of these projects and ushered through the Capital Program named “Chart the Course”.  Having had children who attended the Medford Public Schools, her youngest just graduated this year; she understands how important it is to keep our education system moving forward.

Stephanie Muccini Burke has both the technical knowledge and the management skills to lead our community forward. She is caring and is deeply committed to Medford. Stephanie brings both the legislative and administrative experience necessary to deal with the complex issues that face today’s cities. With grace and elegance, Stephanie, a lifelong resident, a taxpayer, a professional, a parent and a community leader is the right person at the right time for Medford.
