Section of Harvard Street to be Closed for Green Line Construction in July

Starting Wednesday, July 1 at 8:00 AM Harvard Street will be reduced to single lane traffic between Main Street and Boston Avenue for Green Line extension construction. Only westbound traffic heading toward Boston Avenue will get through while eastbound traffic will be detoured along Boston Avenue. The detour plan has been posted on the Green Line Extension website. The area beneath the Harvard Street rail bridge will also be closed to pedestrians and bicyclists. The construction work on the bridge abutments is necessary for the rebuilding of the bridge to accommodate the Green Line. The work, and related closures, are expected to take one month.

Additionally, on the weekend of July 11th and 12th, Harvard Street will be fully closed to traffic (both lanes) between Main Street and Boston Avenue for the purposes of structural steel erection. The road will be closed to traffic starting on Saturday, July 11th at 5 AM and it is anticipated it will reopen by Sunday, July 12th at 9 PM. Sidewalks underneath the Harvard Street bridge will also be closed at this time. During the full closure, local residents will still be able to access Harvard Street, but there will be no traffic through the Harvard Street Rail Bridge due to construction.
