Harvard Street Detour to Remain Through August for Green Line Construction

Green Line construction will continue on the Harvard Street bridge, resulting in some traffic detours throughout August, according to the MassDOT.

Over the weekend workers installed the two track bays that will ultimately carry the Green Line over Harvard Street in Medford. Follow up work is needed, which will result in partial closure of Harvard Street between Main Street and Boston Avenue.

Only westbound traffic heading toward Boston Avenue will get through while eastbound traffic will be detoured. On July 13th the north-side lane and sidewalk will again be closed to all cars and pedestrians. Once this work is complete, work will begin on the south side of the bridge, requiring closure of the south-side lane and sidewalk. This is expected to be an around-the-clock lane closure, although there could be a period of time during which the closure is not in effect. Signs and a police detail will help direct drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

The detour plan has been posted on the Green Line Extension website. The area beneath the Harvard Street rail bridge will also be closed to pedestrians and bicyclists.
