Medford Native to be Inducted in UMass Boston Athletics Hall of Fame

Ray BucklandThe University of Massachusetts Boston Department of Athletics has announced the members of the 2015 Hall of Fame Class. In total six individuals and one team will be enshrined in what will be the 13th Annual ceremony.

This year’s Hall of Fame Induction Celebration will be held on Tuesday, October 20 in the UMass Boston Campus Center Ballroom. The dinner reception is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., with the induction celebration scheduled to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Earning entry into the Hall of Fame is Frank Kelley ’68, Steve Hunt ’78, Michael Bogart ’80, Raymond Buckland ’86, Chris Hanafin ’07, and Katherine McWhorter ’10. The 1996 UMass Boston men’s lacrosse team will also be inducted at the celebration.

Perhaps one of the most decorated and skilled basketball players in the history of Boston State College, Buckland will finally be enshrined amongst the greats of Boston State and UMass Boston. A 2004 New England Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, Buckland was a three-time Division III All-American for the Warriors. He led the league in both scoring and rebounding, and went on to serve as a team captain. He served as a three-year starter for the Warriors.

Buckland was also inducted into the Mustang Hall of Fame in 1991,
