Chevalier to Launch OnStage! Concert Series

OnStage! Concert Series Puts Audience On Stage With Pamela Means and Erin McKeown

The OnStage! Series at the Chevalier Theatre in Medford is a completely new concert experience. For this series, the theater will close the main room and, for the first time, the audience will actually be on stage with the performers. We will create a “living room” setting, with a mix of cafe tables and regular seating, all in close
proximity with the performer. This intimate setting will create a unique connection between artist and audience.

OnStage! will feature 8 shows, from September to May, two of which will be morning family shows. The first show will take place on September 19, and it will feature two powerhouse singer/songwriters: Pamela Means and Erin McKeown.

Both women have ties to the Boston-area and are regarded as among the finest and most compelling current songwriters. Weaving seamlessly between jazz, folk, and blues, Means and McKeown write thought-provoking songs about love, social justice, politics, and culture, and have connected with audiences around the globe.

The OnStage! Series is a first step in the revitalization of the theater’s breadth of programming, and it reflects the growing role that the vibrant art community in Medford has been playing in Greater Boston. At 75 years old, the Chevalier Theater in Medford is not only the sixth largest theater in the greater Boston area, but it’s also an historical landmark and a survivor. The Theater fell into disuse for almost 20 years due the Medford High School fire of 1965. Since the early 1980s, the all-volunteer Medford Civic Auditorium and Convention Center Commission, with the support of the City, The Friends of the Chevalier Theatre and many other volunteers, has worked to bring the Chevalier back to life with ongoing improvements and a growing offering of programs, ranging from music, to theater to community and speaking events.
