Mustang Football Team Drops Close One to Belmont

Despite a strong offensive effort the Mustang football lost its home opener 31-28 to Belmont at Hormel Stadium on Friday night.

Medford’s Aaron Sealey, a senior captain, lit up the offense with an 80-yard kick-off return touchdown at the beginning of the game. A two-point conversion and a touchdown by Myles Olivier later in the first half had the Mustangs leading 14-9 going into the third quarter. Olivier scored another touchdown for Medford later in the game while senior captain Anthony DeRienzo made it into the end zone twice, first on a rushing touchdown and then on a two-point conversion. Junior quarterback Ben Antoine threw for over 100 yards, including two touchdown passes. He also rushed for 80 yards. Senior Matt Sullivan led the way on defense for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs are home again on September 25 against Archbishop Williams.
