Tufts Community Day October 4th

Residents, neighbors and friends are invited to celebrate the 13th annual Community Day at Tufts University on Sunday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place on Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus and is co-sponsored with the two cities.

All activities are free and open to the public. Highlights for the day include:

– Music and dance performances by student groups including the Beelzebubs and B.E.A.T.S. percussion.

– Tufts Engineering STOMP program activities with robotic kits and playdough circuits

– Information tables from community groups in Medford and Somerville

– Educational displays from academic departments at Tufts including the Institute for Global Leadership, the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, and the DevTech Research Group from the Department of Child Study and Human Development

Returning this year will also be these favorites:

– Complimentary BBQ lunch and refreshments

– The Tufts School of Dental Medicine’s “Smile Squad” with instructional dental puppets handling out toothbrushes and toothpaste

– Pumpkin painting, cookie decorating, face painting and other family-friendly activities

– Tips on safety and fire prevention from local police and fire departments

– An art making activity related to the current exhibition at the Tufts Art Gallery

All events take place rain or shine on the main academic quad at the top of the hill by Goddard Chapel and Ballou Hall. The event is handicapped accessible.

Free parking for Community Day is available in the Tufts parking garage at 419 Boston Avenue, Medford. A free shuttle will run between Davis Square (across the street from the Somerville Theater) and the Tufts campus. For directions and maps go to: http://campusmaps.tufts.edu/medford/.
