Medford to Break Ground on Krystle Campbell Peace Garden Oct. 18th

Medford is breaking ground on a memorial to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

The Krystle Campbell Peace Garden, named in honor of a Medford native killed in 2013, will include commemorative plaques for Campbell as well as Lingzi Lu, Martin Richard and MIT Police Officer Sean Collier. It will be located in Medford Square on green space in front of the Senior Center. Fountains, walking paths, and Campbell’s favorite, the sunflower, will be part of the garden.

The public ground-breaking ceremony is taking place on Sunday, October 18 at 2:00 PM. According to information released by the city, the victims’ families, survivors, and first responders are expected to be in attendance. A luncheon and musical entertainment will follow the ground-breaking. Anyone who plans on attending can RSVP to krystlecampbellpeacegarden@medford.org.

Medford has raised $1.1 million for the development of the Peace Garden through state grants and private donations, and several thousands of dollars have been raised to maintain the garden once it is constructed.
