Larry Summers, Harvard President Emeritus, Former Treasury Secretary, Speaks at Tufts Oct. 27

Larry SummersLawrence H. Summers, President Emeritus and Charles W. Eliot University Professor at Harvard University and former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, will be speaking at Tufts University on October 27 as a part of the Tisch College Distinguished Speaker Series. The series brings leaders from a range of fields and perspectives to campus to discuss pressing public issues.

The free public lecture, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session, will be held at 5:30 p.m. in Alumnae Lounge on Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus. Summers will discuss international affairs and economic issues, with a focus on how the U.S. can use its economic influence as an instrument of foreign policy. The lecture is presented by Tufts University’s Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service.

During the past two decades, Summers has served in a series of senior public policy positions, including as the 71st Secretary of the Treasury under President William J. Clinton, Director of the National Economic Council under President Barack Obama, and Chief Economist of the World Bank. His current appointments at Harvard also include the Weil Director of the Mossa­var-Rahmani Center for Business & Government at the Kennedy School.

The Tisch College Distinguished Speaker Series, which launched in the fall of 2014, educates and engages students at Tufts, providing them with opportunities to interact with leaders in various fields. Previous speakers include U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, and former Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.
