Tufts Announces Upcoming Free Concerts

‘Tis Autumn Oct. 25th

The Tufts University Department of Music presents ‘Tis Autumn, a concert featuring performance faculty and vocalist Patrice Williamson performing works by Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

New at Noon: Version 1.0—The Stream is Always Revising Oct. 30th

The Tufts University Department of Music presents Tufts’ undergraduate and graduate composers in New at Noon: Version 1.0—The Stream is Always Revising, a continuation of experiments in sound in an informal setting on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 12 p.m. in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center. The concert will feature composers Simone Allen, John Arnold, Meghan Connolly, Allie McIntosh, and John McDonald, as well as performers Simone Allen, John Arnold, and Thomas Stumpf, piano; Nicole Parks, violin; and Micaela Slotin, Dorian Pistilli, Ed Rosini, and Emma Wold, voice.

Songs and Dances of Eternal Beauty Nov. 1st

The Tufts University Department of Music presents Songs and Dances of Eternal Beauty, featuring faculty violinist Joanna Kurkowicz and pianist Doris Stevenson in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Sunday, November 1 at 3 p.m. This concert is presented as part of the Sunday at Tufts – Community Concert Series.

This recital will celebrate the art of song and dance in different forms. From quintessential melodic intensity and depth of expression of the Mozart “Violin Sonata in B-flat Major” to the soulful blues of Ravel’s “Sonata No. 2” and tango and jazzy rhythms in the music of André Previn, this varied program includes the pinnacle of the solo violin repertoire – a monumental and brilliant Bach “Chaconne” and the exuberant dances of his “Partita in D minor” preceding it.

Songs of Remembrance Nov. 8th

The Tufts University Department of Music presents Songs of Remembrance, a concert where faculty members Thomas Gregg, tenor and Thomas Stumpf, piano, will perform Schumann’s “Twelve Kerner Songs”, op. 35, James H. Rogers’ “In Memoriam” (1918), and Weill’s “Four Walt Whitman Songs” (1942/1948), in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

Tufts Composers – Two Portraits: O’Connell and Shivers Nov. 9th

The Tufts University Department of Music presents Tufts’ graduate composers Ryan O’Connell and Jeffery Shivers in Tufts Composers – Two Portraits: O’Connell and Shivers, a concert showcasing their newest works on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 8 p.m. in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center. The concert will feature Tufts faculty performers and guest performances by Semiosis Quartet and Philipp Stäudlin.
