Lady Mustang JV Soccer Team Wrapping Up Season

On Wednesday, October 14 the girls junior varsity soccer team traveled to Pine Banks park to faceoff with Malden. The Golden Tornados quickly jumped out to a 2-­0 lead that held up through halftime. In the second half the Mustangs’ freshman midfielder Leanna Tassinari scored two goals to secure a tie. Tassinari’s first goal came five minutes into the second half and she added her second goal with five minutes remaining in the game. Tassinari leads the team with six goals.

Three days later the Medford girls soccer program held is annual pink game at Hormel Stadium to help raise awareness towards breast cancer research. The Mustangs hosted Haverhill. On the field, the Hillies jumped out to a lead two minutes into the game on an indirect kick and added two second half goals to win 3­-0. Medford’s best chance to cut into the lead came in the second half when sophomore forward Exsandrine Jean Marie took a shot from ten yards out that hit the post.

With temperatures in the 30’s Monday night the Lady Mustangs traveled to the Madeline English School to play Everett. After a scoreless first half the Mustangs’ offense added two goals in the second half to pick up a 2-­0. Freshman Kayla Dell’Anno and sophomore Exsandrine Jean Marie got shots past the Everett goalie. The Medford defensive unit of Samantha Liu, Allison Harvey, Ryan Heard, Ajani Martin­-Abascal, and Youventha Raymond helped goalies Francesca Viggiani and Sofia Bendok earn their second shutout of the season.

The JV Mustangs have four games remaining on the schedule including traveling to Andover Thursday at 5:30pm, hosting Framingham at 4:25pm Saturday at Hormel Stadium, traveling to Lawrence October 27th and hosting Somerville October 28th.
