City to Host Dedication Ceremony for Veteran Tom Convery

Tom ConveryOn Veterans Day Medford will hold a dedication ceremony in honor of a very special veteran.

The corner of Park Street and the Fellsway will be named in honor of Tom Convery, a veteran of three wars who passed way in 2013.

Major (Ret.) Convery was a US Air Force veteran, entering the military on February 15, 1943 and received his honorable discharge on August 31, 1967, from Stewart Air Force base in New York. While in the military, Mr. Convery, received a direct commission during the Korean War and had the rare distinction of having served during three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

Convery was a Civics and History teacher for the Medford Public School system for more than 25 years. While director of the job placement program he found jobs for more than 27,000 students and citizens of Medford.

Convery was extremely active in the community, and founded both the Salem Street Business Association and the Mustang Hall of Fame. He interviewed nearly 100 WWII veterans from Medford for an oral history project that was submitted to the Library of Congress and is the author of six books whose sales raised nearly $40,000 for charity.

Convery, married for over 60 years to his wife, Beverly, has five children, Tom, Mark, Beth, Tim, and Dorothy, and numerous grand-children.

All are welcome to attend the dedication ceremony, which is taking place at 12:00 PM.
