MHS Alumni to be Honored at 4th Annual Medford Night Nov. 27th

The Medford High School Alumni Association (MHSAA) has announced the recipients of four awards that will be presented at Medford Night 4 with Tom Convery and the Medford High School Alumni Association on Friday, November 27.

The “Mustangs Give Back” Award is presented to an alum of Medford High School that has given back to Medford High as a teacher, staff member, administrator, coach, parent, or community supporter. Kathy Johnson is the recipient of this year’s award for her constant dedication to the students of Medford High School. For several years Kathy has served as an Assistant Principal Secretary, where she has gone above and beyond to support to MHS students. Furthermore, Kathy was an important asset in helping get the MHSAA get formed three years ago by providing the Board of Directors with various alumni records and documents from years past. Her distinct Mustang Pride and support for Medford High students is what makes her deserving of this year’s “Mustangs Give Back” Award.

The “Honorary Mustang” Award is presented to a member of the Medford High School Community that did not graduate from Medford High School, but exhibits and embodies the level of Mustang Pride to earn the distinction of being an Honorary Mustang. We are pleased to announce that this year’s award goes to former cheer-leading coach Cheryl Pasinato. Cheryl really put MHS cheer-leading on the map and the program became a powerhouse under her leadership! Cheryl, who coached from 1988 to 1999, took the team from a club activity to a varsity sport, winning a Novice State Cheer Title in 1989, the Massachusetts State Title in 1998, and a National Title in 1998. The team also won numerous GBL league and cheer invitational tournaments.

The “Young Alumni” Award is a new award this year to honor Mustangs that have graduated from Medford High within the past ten years and have quickly gone on to great achievements and success. The recipient of this year’s inaugural award is Janell Rocco of Medford High School’s Class of 2010. Janelle is the founder of Medford’s grassroots community organization, “Medford Overcoming Addition,” which serves as a group to battle the disease of addition within our community. Her work to support those that are battling addiction within the Medford community makes her deserving of the inaugural “Young Alumni” Award.

The “Local Business Honor Roll” is another new award to honor the local businesses in the Medford community that consistently support Medford High School’s students and the Medford High community. The recipient of this year’s inaugural award is the West Medford ice cream shop CB Scoops. Throughout the years CB Scoops has consistently supported and sponsored Medford High School students and programs, which is why they have been selected to receive this year’s inaugural “Local Business Honor Roll.”

All four recipients will both be honored at Medford Night 4 with Tom Convery and the Medford High School Alumni Association on Friday, November 27, 2015 at John Brewers Tavern on 7 Highland Avenue in Malden. The MHSAA will be presenting the awards at 7:30 pm.

This event is open to all members of the community and is a night of fun entertainment and socialization for Medford High alumni from all years! There will be trivia, prizes, raffles, a DJ, and more! Tom Convery (’70) and the Medford High School Alumni Association invite alumni to come to honor Kathy, Cheryl, Janelle, and CB Scoops, support the MHSAA, and have an enjoyable night. All of the money raised goes directly toward scholarships for graduating MHS seniors.
