Globe: Hallmark Health, Partners Merger Stalled

There is still no official word from Partners HealthCare on whether it will move forward with a merger with Hallmark Health, according to an article in The Boston Globe.

Nearly one year ago a judge rejected Partners’ to purchase three community hospitals. Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford were included in the plan, which would have transitioned LMH to a hospital with less beds serving patients who would stay for less than three days. Suffolk Superior Court Judge Janet Sanders felt the merger would lead to increased health care costs.

The Globe reports the fate of the merger is uncertain. Both Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn and Melrose Mayor Robert Dolan said Hallmark Health needs the merger to remain viable.
