St. Joe’s Lenten Tenebrae Service March 15th

Saint Joseph's Church

As part of our Lenten observance this year, St. Joseph Parish and the St. Joseph Music Ministry will be presenting a beautiful Lenten Tenebrae Service – “The Shadows of Holy Week”, on Tuesday evening, March 15th, at 7pm. The ancient Tenebrae service, from which this service is derived, dates back to the 7th or 8th century. Coming from the Latin word meaning “darkness” or “shadows”, Tenebrae depicts, through the successive extinguishing of candles and dimming of lights, the flight of the disciples and the events leading up to the crucifixion.

The Tenebrae enables, us, through scripture and song, to meditate upon the passion, death, and burial of the Lord as we await His resurrection. The gradual darkening of the church symbolizes the temporary triumph of the prince of darkness over the Light of the World, and the return of the light is the symbol and promise of Christ’s triumph over death and darkness.

We would be delighted if you are able to join us for this very special event.
