Wynn Hopes to Break Ground on Casino in July

Casino owner Steve Wynn said he hopes to break ground on his Everett development in July, according to The Boston Globe.

“Look, the building’s going to get built, give or take a month or two,” Wynn said

Ground-breaking for the project was supposed to happen this spring but has been postponed due to an appeal filed by Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone of an environmental permit previously awarded by the state.

According to The Globe, if construction begins in July the casino would open in late 2018.

Wynn held a press conference in Medford on Tuesday. In addition to discussing Curtatone’s appeal, he said the project would cost $2 billion (up from $1.7 billion) and he would call the casino resort “Wynn Boston Harbor” despite its location on the Mystic River. He said the company has already spent $300 million.
