Local Artist to Present Solo Exhibition at Jerome Street Studios

Hilary Tait Norod

Jerome Street Studios is pleased to present “Are You Crazy with Me?” a solo exhibition of new work by Hilary Tait Norod.

Please join us on Saturday, April 16th, from 5-9 p.m., for the exhibition opening and to meet the artist. Additional viewing available by appointment.

“Are You Crazy with Me” stems from an idea that has consistently haunted the canvases of Hilary Tait Norod. As her work parallels studies of the human mind, this series focuses more specifically on the theories behind the correlation between insanity and creativity. Edgar Allan Poe said it best when he said “Men have called me mad; but the question is not yet settled, whether madness is or is not the loftiest intelligence– whether much that is glorious– whether all that is profound– does not spring from disease of thought– from moods of mind exalted at the expense of the general intellect.” Norod presents a series of mixed media paintings that range from portraits of brilliant minds who have walked the line of insanity, such as Poe, to more abstract pieces of her own theories, experiences, and explorations.

Norod grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts and was surrounded by a creative family, succeeding generations of Artists. Before graduation from Skidmore College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Studio Art, Norod was the 2009 recipient of the Jesse Soloman Award for Most Outstanding Painting. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in Los Angeles, New York and Boston and published in books that were distributed internationally, magazines, and online catalogues. Her work currently follows the complexities of the human mind by translating perception disorders, neuroscience, and psychology. In 2016 Hilary was awarded the Presidential Scholarship and Award at Lesley University. This summer she will begin working towards receiving her MFA at Lesley College with expected completion in 2018.
