Clark Bill Highlighted in U.S. House Push for Opioid Solutions

Congresswoman Katherine Clark and members of the Bipartisan Task Force on the Opioid Epidemic urged the U.S. House to immediately address their bills to combat the opioid epidemic. One dozen opioid-related bills gained momentum today in a subcommittee meeting in the U.S. House. Among the bills that cleared initial hurdles were two introduced by Clark. Clark is the Democratic sponsor of the Reducing Unused Medications Act, and Lali’s Law, bills intended to reduce and prevent opioid overdoses.

“Across Massachusetts and the nation, too many parents are desperately trying to save their child from the opioid crisis’ deadly grip,” said Clark. “This public health crisis calls on Democrats and Republicans to put all differences aside and give our country the tools it needs to save lives and end the scourge of this epidemic.”

In 2015, U.S. House unanimously passed Clark’s bill to help newborns suffering from opioid withdrawal, the Protecting Our Infants Act. President Obama signed Clark’s legislation into law in November.
