‘Healthy Mind’ Event at City Hall October 12th

Please join us for a great free event on October 12th hosted by Medford Health Matters. It is the second in a series aimed at healthy mind, body and spirit. “Healthy Mind” is taking place on Wednesday, October 12 from 5:45-7:30 PM at Medford City Hall and is focused on helping manage anxiety and stress in a hectic life.

The activities are as follows:

5:45 pm: Group Walk with Walk Medford, starting in front of City Hall. Martin Dubovic of the Malden YMCA will lead a pre-walk warmup exercise

6:30 pm: Achieving a Healthy Mind in a Hectic World. Shannon Sauer-Zavala of Boston University’s Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders

6:50 pm: Group Breathing Exercise, Council Chambers

7:05-7:25 pm: Support resources, Keith Wales of Eliot Community Human Services

About the Presenters:

Shannon Sauer-Zavala, Ph.D., is a Research Assistant Professor at Boston University’s Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Kentucky and completed her pre-doctoral internship at Duke University Medical Center. Her research is focused on understanding the emotional factors that lead to the development of common mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. Shannon is involved in work aimed at developing more efficient and effective treatments for emotional disorders. Additionally, as the Director of the Unified Protocol Institute, she trains clinicians to provide research-based treatments for anxiety and depression. Clinically, she maintains a small caseload of patients at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders.

Keith Wales, LICSW, has directed the Everett clinic of Eliot Community Human Services for the past five years. He has worked for 20 years as a clinician, supervisor, and teacher. He has experience in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, and communities.
