Mustang Football Team Advances to Playoffs

– Allison Goldsberry

The Mustang football team has qualified for the playoffs for the first time since the team began competing under the new system in 2013.

The new playoff system, launched in 2013, basically lets more than one team from a league advance to the playoffs based upon teams’ performances and the strength of their schedules. Teams in the same league can also be in different divisions.

Medford, in North Division 2, is 3-4 but has earned enough points to qualify. The Mustangs will play an undefeated Tewksbury. The game is taking place at Tewksbury at 1:30 PM on Saturday, October 29. The winner will advance to the semi-finals to play the winner of the Beverly/Somerville game.

If Medford loses, they will participate in a few more consolation games to round out their season before taking on long-time rival Malden in the 129th Thanksgving football game.
